Privacy Policy

A plain-English explanation of how things work. This is written for our free early-stage product and is not legal advice.

1. Who we are

Berea is an early-stage project building a trustworthy, cross-tradition AI Bible study tool. This policy explains what information we collect through askberea.com and how we use it.Berea is free to use.

2. Information we collect

We only collect what we need:

  • Account and message details you give us. When you create your free workspace or send us a message, we collect your name and email address, and optionally the church or tradition you identify with and any message you choose to add.
  • Your questions. When you use the demo or the study workspace, the question you type is sent to our AI provider to generate a response. Please don’t enter sensitive personal information. To improve coverage, we keep anonymous statistics about questions (topic, length — never linked to you), and when Berea can’t answer a question, we may keep its text (with no account or device information attached) so we can add the missing sources.
  • Your saved studies stay in your browser. Studies you save in the workspace are currently stored in your own browser’s local storage, not on our servers.
  • Basic usage data. Like most websites, we collect limited technical and analytics data (such as pages viewed and general device/browser information) to understand how the site is used and to improve it.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and support your free workspace.
  • To operate and improve the demo, the workspace, and the site.
  • To respond to messages and feedback you send us.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show advertising. We will not send you unrelated marketing.

4. Service providers

We share data only with the providers needed to run the service, under their own security and privacy commitments:

  • Supabase — secure database hosting for accounts and messages.
  • Anthropic — the AI model that powers the demo and the workspace (it processes the question you submit).
  • Vercel — website hosting, infrastructure, and privacy-friendly page analytics.
  • Google (Analytics via Tag Manager) — usage analytics that help us improve the site. These are consent-gated: analytics cookies are only set after you choose “Accept” in the cookie banner.
  • Email delivery provider — to send you account or support emails when needed.

5. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to operate the site and understand usage. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are set only after you choose “Accept” in the consent banner; choose “Decline” and they are not set. You can also manage cookies in your browser settings.

6. Data retention & security

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. We keep your account and message information until you ask us to remove it, or until it is no longer needed for the purposes above.

7. Your choices and rights

You can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to delete your account — just email us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, which we will honour.

8. Children

Berea is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product develops. We’ll revise the “last updated” date above, and we’ll review and finalise this policy before any full public launch.
